
- The International Owl Center in Houston is the only all-owl education center in the U.S. They are dedicated to the education and research of owls. You can check out a live owl program during open hours and they hold an International Festival of Owls every year in March.
- Check out Creekside Park in Rushford if you’re looking to burn some energy. The park has a large playground, basketball & tennis courts, picnic shelters, ball field, skating rink & more–accessible from the Root River Trail.
- The Houston Nature Center and the Natural Playground are two excellent places to bring your kids. The Natural Playground features a sand pit, climbing rocks, labyrinth, and more!
- Take in a family-friendly movie at the Jem Theater in Harmony. It’s the only movie theater in Fillmore County and if you bring your own bucket, you’ll get a sweet deal on popcorn!
- Mini-Golf and Disc-Golf are both options available along the trail towns. You can visit our website at www.rootrivertrail.org to see if they are available in the town you are visiting.
- STRIKE! Another fun activity, especially on a rainy day, is good old-fashioned bowling! We have a bowling alley in Preston and one in Rushford. An added bonus? They both have great food, too!
- Beautiful Sylvan Park in Lanesboro is another great place to have a picnic, let the kids play, and enjoy the outdoors. Each town has a park and some towns have several. We love our green spaces!
